Húsavík is the perfect place to spend a few nights while exploring the Diamond Circle and the natural wonders of Northern Iceland. My family and I have run accommodation in Húsavík for the past ten years and we look forward to welcoming you to one of our guesthouses in town.
We founded the Húsavík Guesthouse in 2010 in our old family home at Laugarbrekka 16. The house was built in 1947 and used for decades to house people from Flatey island across the bay while visiting the town. In 1999 we rented the house to the Húsavík Whale Museum for volunteers and researchers working for the museum. We renovated our old family home in 2009 and opened our first guesthouse in 2010. The house has 8 rooms and our guests enjoy a breakfast at our hotel located by the same street.
In 2011, we founded the Húsavík Hostel, the first backpackers option in Húsavík. The hostel has been located at two historic buildings in Húsavík, for the first two seasons in Hjarðarholt house and from 2014 to 2019 in Prestsholt, before moving to Höfði House in 2020, now sharing a building with our Cape Hotel. At the hostel we offer accommodation for backpackers and budget travelers at good prices. Our guests can also buy breakfast at the Cape Hotel.
Húsavík Cape Hotel
In 2012, we opened our first hotel, the Húsavík Cape Hotel, a relaxed 19 room hotel located above the harbor with views of the bay and the town. The hotel is located on the site of the first Viking Settlement in Iceland, where viking Garðar Svavarsson built the first house in Iceland. Our dining room features a large library of exploration and folklore titles, and is the home of our annual Explorers Festival and the Leif Erikson Awards.
Húsavík Explorers Apartment
In 2019 we opened the Húsavík Explorers Apartment, a cozy spot for a couple, a small family or a solo traveler to spend a few nights while exploring the north.
